Employee Attributes

Introduction

My name is Conor and I am a student at the Southern Regional College, Newry.

As a part of my Comunication and Employability skills assignment I have been asked to provide a blog page providing information on attributes and attitudes. An attribute is a characteristic. Colour is an attribute of somebodies hair. Their are two types of attributes. General attributes, and specific attributes. The difference between a general attribute and a specific attribute is that a general attribute is something that all employers would look for in an employee such as being punctual while a specific attribute would be something that is highly relevant to the job such as a software engineer being able to unterstand computer coding and having a high level of mathmatics.

What employee attributes do full time staff of Rainbow Light require?

An example of an attribute that is specific to a job regarding Rainbow Light would be good communication skills

General Attribute- Team Working Skills

Team working is being able to get along with the team and distributing tasks evenly. It involves working in correlation with each other to get the task complete. The team members of Rainbow Light would be the volunteers and the manager. A volunteer of Rainbow Light would need to work with many different people.
They will need to work with not only their manager and other Rainbow Light volunteers but also with customers that are looking to gain IT skills. Volunteers would need to work with other team members when doing projects such as recording tutoral cds. Team working skills would be required by a volunteerof Rainbow Light.

It is the ability to be able to work with others or as a part of a team to carry out a task.
Team working skills can mean that the employee is highly motivating towards others, can use his initiative to input his logical opinions, that they are able to distribute the workload out evenly to the group and can help an other member of the team that does not know what to do. If a volunteer was unable to work with other members of their team then it would be very difficult to complete the project because nobody is making a team effort. Even if one member of the team does not work well as a part of a team it could de modivate the other team members which will mean that the project will take longer to complete. If a volunteer does not work well as a part of a team this could have a catastrophic impact on Rainbow Light. This is because their reputation could be destroyed if the project is incomplete or complete to a level of low quality. This could loose the organization lots of valuable customers which will mean the company will make less profit. This could even lead to the company having to lay their employees off and could even send Rainbow Light into liquidation.

This is an extremely important attribute for a volunteer to have because an employee of Number One would have to work with other volunteers as a part of a team for charity projects. If a volunteerof Rainbow Light does not have excellent team working skills then this can have a massive effect on the whole team and the project will take longer to complete and may not be of the best quality as it could have been.

An employer would like his volunteers to also be good team players also for the reason that he will be under less stress as his volunteers would work well with each other meaning that no arguments or disputes will occur. This will mean better quality products being produced at a faster speed which in turn will make the employer more profit to help fund his organisation or expand it.
If a volunteer was unable to work with other members of the team then the project will take a lot longer to complete and it will be completed at a lower level of quality.

Specific Attribute- Technical Knowledge

It would be vital that a volunteer of Rainbow Light has good technical knowledge of computers and the software that they are teaching as they will want their volunteers to teach efficiently.

Technical knowledge are vital to look professional by knowing what they are doing and not pausing to think as they are recording for their CD due to a lack of knowledge on how to use a certain software and they need to have a lot of technical knowledge to ensure that their clients underststand how to use the software.

If the volunteers of Rainbow Light have technical knowledge then this means that they can edit their own CDs'. Volunteers of Rainbow Light would have to also have technical knowledge of more basic computing skills such as how to type, how to browse the Internet and how to log on and how to navigate through folders.
It would be beneficial if an volunteer of Rainbow Light had skills and qualifications in ICT such as GCSE or A Level ICT as this would prove that the employee has technical knowledge of the subject.

As a volunteer of Rainbow Light you would be require technical knowledge in burning CD's. This will mean that a volunteer of Rainbow light would have to be able to know how to use a CD burning software such as Nero. The volunteer would also require basic technical knowledge such as being able to open and close the disc tray to insert a blank CD.

A volunteer of rainbow light would also need to be able to use a microphone and a voice recording software so that they can create talking books. This may also involve being able to know how to use the microphone as it could be a more advanced microphone with features such as mute and voice modification.

A volunteer of rainbow light would also require basic knowledge on programs such as microsoft office. They will need to know how to use programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access so to at least a basic level so that they can carry out tasks such as writing a letter and being able to make spreadsheets containing customer and financial information.

A volunteer of Rainbow Light will also need to have technical knowledge when working alongside with their manager. They will need to be able to be able to read and compose an email so that they can get in contact with their manager, clients or other volunteers.

A volunteer of Rainbow light will need to know how to create and update blogs if their manager wants them to do so. This will mean they need to know the basics of blogging and how to use sitesd such as Blogger.

A volunteer of Rainbow Light would require technical knowledge in databases. They will need to know how to search through databases for customer details and how to update records.

A volunteer of Rainbow Light would also need to be able to demonstrate how to load CD's in the event that a customer does not know how to do so. They will also need to be able to show customers how to use hardware such as headphones so that they can listen to their CD.

Attitudes that might be expected from a Rainbow Light volunteer

An attitude is the approach that a person has towards something. It is the way that they think and act towards something such as their attitude towards work. It is a settled way that a person thinks and it often is a reflection of someones behavior.
A Rainbow Light volunteer may be expected to have attitudes such as being tolerant and being dependable.

Dependable

A volunteer of Rainbow Light may be expected to be dependable. This is because if the organisation can not depend on a volunteer then they would feel on edge as the volunteer may not do what they said they would do.
This can have a huge effect on the whole project as someone has not done what they have said they would do which would leave more work and complications for everyone else.

It is important tha an employee is dependable because if they are not dependable and they do not show up to work or the volunteer shows up late then the employers plans and timetable will be wrecked.

It is also important for a volunteer of  Rainbow Light to be highly tolerant so other volunteers will be less prone to not getting on well with them which may result in lots of fights and arguments which will delay the whole project and lower the teams moral.

Tolerant

A volunteer of Rainbow Light would have to be a highly tolerant person. This is because they may have to work with people they dislike and will have to put up with them.
They would also have to be tolerant as they are dealing with people that have very little or no prior knowledge about the software so they will require a bit of extra help.

A volunteer of rainbow light would require tolerance because they may have a project that would require a lot of tolerance so they do not refuse to carry out the task they have been asked.  Tolerance is also very important because it creates a professional look for the company. If all staff members have a high level of tollerence then they will be more likely to keep their current customers. This will mean that their customers will be likely to come back to them with another project. The employer will then make a higher profit which the employer can invest into the rainbow light to buy better resources and machinery such as better
